The Devils Lake Fallen Soldiers Run/Walk is an annual event that started in 2009. It has previously been a 12K run/walk.
The most commonly asked question is "Why a 12K?" The answer is simple. We mark 1K for each North Dakota National Guard Soldier that has lost their life in the Iraqi War. Unfortunately, 2 more ND Soldiers were killed in December, 2012. Starting in 2013, the Fallen Soldiers Run/Walk will be a 14K. The 2nd most common question is "Is it just for the military?" The answer is no! EVERYONE is welcome to walk or run the route to show your support for our military that have served, are currently serving and to help financially support the families of those fallen soldiers. All proceeds from this event (the registration fee and any donations received) help the North Dakota Tragedy Assistance for Survivors Program (ND TAPS). The event will start at the Burdick Arena and follow a path out to Camp Grafton Headquarters Edwards Building. Transportation will be provided back to the Burdick Arena. You can be picked up at Camp Grafton as well. The driver will need to show a valid drivers license and proof of vehicle insurance at the main gate. |
